School Textbook Assistance
學校書簿津貼
Means-tested assistance for eligible primary and secondary school textbook expenses.
Benefit amount
Full or half assistance is available subject to the means test. Actual grants depend on school year and level. Provisional 2026/27 payments must not be represented as final rates while adjustments remain pending.
Who can apply?
Generally covers eligible Primary 1 to Secondary 6 students at government, aided, per-caput grant and local Direct Subsidy Scheme schools, subject to means tests and residence/school requirements. The parent or guardian generally applies. CSSA families normally seek relevant school-related assistance through SWD.
How to apply
For 2026/27, applications for School Textbook Assistance should generally be submitted by 31 October 2026. Late submission generally means the textbook grant will not be paid even if the means test and other eligibility conditions are met; check exceptional arrangements with SFO.

Important: provisional is not final
The SFO has initially used 2025/26 rates for provisional 2026/27 payments; it will adjust payments when 2026/27 rates are finalised. Applications after 31 October 2026 generally do not receive the textbook grant even if the means test is passed.
